Fetal onset neuroaxonal dystrophy ( FNAD )is an inherited autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease characterized by abnormal development of the brainstem, spinal chord and the peripheral nerves. Symptoms of the disease are generally present at birth with pups often showing poor leg positioning, apparent scoliosis, and respiratory distress.
