POAG - Primary Open Angle Glaucoma
Glaucoma results when fluid in the eye is produces faster than it can be removed, resulting in an increase in pressure, which may eventually lead to blindness. Hereditary glaucoma is present in several breeds of dog including the Beagle and Norweigan Elkhound. It is an autosomal recessive disease thus an animal affected with the disease has inherited one copy of the mutation from each parent.
