SAN - Sensory Ataxic Neuropathy
Sensory ataxic neuropathy (SAN) is an inherited neurological disorder in Golden Retrievers. SAN has an insidious onset during puppyhood, followed by slow progression. Males and females are affected at similar frequencies. Affected dogs have severe deficits in motor coordination and sensory perception. The dogs are ataxic: they lose the ability to coordinate muscular movement, especially of the extremities.
