PRA (GR_PRA2) is a descriptive term encompassing a group of diseases with the shared symptom of retinal degeneration. The tests we offer at Vetgen have been licensed from the Animal Health Trust where the primary research was undertaken in conjunction with researchers at the Uppsala University. These are two distinct tests for separate mutations implicated in PRA. They are not the same as the test available for Golden Retriever progressive rod-cone degeneration (PRCD), which is also a form of PRA.

As with GR-PRA1, the GR in the name comes from the Golden Retriever breed where it was first detected. It has seen been identified in other breeds.

Both the PRA-1 and PRA-2 mutations are recessive.
