MPS IIIB

MPS IIIB, or Sanfilippo syndrome type IIIB, is an inherited disease classified as a lysosomal storage disease (LSD). The inheritance pattern of MPS IIIB is autosomal recessive. Clear and Carrier animals are completely normal. Affected animals begin to develop symptoms as young adults (2-4). Symptoms may include tremors and balance problems. The disease is progressive with no known treatment. The exact carrier frequency is unknown, but seems to be relatively high based on anecdotal evidence. Vetgen has developed a test for a mutation in the gene for the NAGLU enzyme which was first identified by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.
